The Seven Cults started as a visual collection for Afrojack. In their show, they wanted to give the VJ a unique set of images that felt intriguing. The visuals had to feel like they were part of the same universe, but had to be different enough to be able to use throughout the entire set. We built a fictional world of cults, each with their unique rituals and belief system. From there we created small scenes that we acted out in the studio, relying heavily on styling and choreography to tell each story.
While on set, we realised the potential the images had and immediately decided we wanted to create a short film. Fast forward one year and The Seven Cults played as a collection of 7 short films at 5 festivals including Obskuur Ghent and Imagine Film Festival Amsterdam. The films will be released individually on this page in November and December 2023.
